Below, you will see some of the home learning tasks if you wish to print them. Please still upload to seesaw by scanning your work or taking a photo of it. Thank you, Miss Warren
The book we are reading for Guided Reading is called The Brilliant World of Tom Gates. You can download a free pdf copy from this website: https://www.pdfdrive.com/the-brilliant-world-of-tom-gates-e189591704.html
Also, we are reading The Promise by Nicola Davies in English. Part one of the book can be found below, or you can listen to the full book being read on Youtube.
We have a few children learning from home at the moment. If work is returned to school, it will be marked (after 72 hours quarantine) and feedback will be given.
Guided reading is based on our body- which is similar to our science topic. There is a text to read and a few activities based on this. The answers are included and a spelling, grammar and punctuation activity based on the same text.
English- in English this week, we are continuing to write our explanation text on the digestive system. We will be then writing an explanation text completely independently to see which English skills we have remembered.
In maths we are working on multiplication- in particular our times tables. There are some worksheets and activities below to support with these.
Thanks Miss Warren
Homework every week will be to practise spellings and reading 5 times per week. Children are also expected to complete 5 garage sessions on Times Tables Rock Stars per week. This will be monitored by myself and children will earn team points for completing their garage sessions.
The government are introducing a mandatory multiplication times tables check for all Year 4 pupils. This will take place in June 2021. Children will be tested on 25 random times tables (up to 12 x 12) and they only have six seconds to answer each question. The test is online and children will use a laptop to complete it. More information is available on the government website:
https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/multiplication-tables-check
In school we have started using a similar test to practise our tables, as well as Times Tables Rock Stars. The link to the test that we are using to practise is here: https://mathsframe.co.uk/en/resources/resource/477/Multiplication-Tables-Check
If you have any more questions about this or need a reminder of your child's password for TTRS, please contact me on the link above. Thank you, Miss Warren
As part of our PSHE and well-being sessions, we drew our own Gregosaurus- courtesy of Draw with Rob on Youtube. The children produced some fabulous art work which they should be very proud of.
I hope you had a lovely summer and are ready for the start of the new school year. While many of you are ready and happy to return to school, some of you have mixed or anxious feelings about the safety of your child as they return to school for the first time since March so I wanted to let you know about some changes we have put into place.
In order to make the classroom as safe as possible, all tables have been rearranged to be forward-facing, which will be wiped down and disinfected regularly to maintain cleanliness. Each pupil has their own equipment labelled with their name, in their own pencil case, so there will be absolutely no sharing of equipment. Pupils have an individual workstation that no other pupil will use and will be expected to stay in their places throughout the day (apart from toilet breaks as they occur). Lunchboxes will also be stored in these personal areas. Along with the many measures the school has put into place to keep everyone as safe as possible, we will be promoting good hand hygiene after each lesson, before and after lunch and after break-times.
We are all anxious to different degrees about reopening school, so we will be doing lots of work to promote well-being and mindfulness to support your child. I can speak from experience from working in the Year 5 bubble in July, that it does not take the pupils long to adapt to the changes and to feel safe and secure. If after a few days in school your child is still worried, please let us know so we can provide further support.
In terms of education, we will be implementing a recovery curriculum to help your child practise key skills in Maths and English, catch up the missing Year 3 Summer Term and fill in the gaps in their knowledge, while moving them forward and challenging them with the Year 4 curriculum. The aim is to have fully caught up by the end of the Autumn Term and to make that possible, we have scheduled extra English and Maths lessons each day. Obviously, we will still do lots of the fun stuff, but the priority is to make sure that your child’s future prospects haven’t been harmed by their lengthy absence from the classroom. At this point, I would also like to sincerely thank you for all hard work and support you have provided over the lockdown with home learning and other enriching activities. We are looking forward to hearing about any new skills your child has learned since the last time they were in school!
Year 4 is a big step up from Year 3, with more expectations on your child to be able to show independence and apply their learning. Therefore, it would help us to better help your child if you can make sure they read every night and practise their spellings nightly as well. For your information:
If you have any questions or issues, please feel free to get in touch. We are always happy to support you in any way we can.
Yours faithfully,
Miss Warren and Mrs Short
Year 4 Team
